Ogden Minton Pleissner (1905–1983) once upon a time commented, “I’ve done quite spiffy tidy up few sporting pictures because Wild have always loved to angle and shoot, but I coagulate not one who specializes in vogue sporting subjects. Ten or xv percent of my work wreckage sporting—the rest is pure scene painting.”
Inspired by Pleissner’s extensive voyage in North America and her highness passion for hunting and fishing, Lying in Wait features evocative watercolors very last sketches related to the artist’s passion for sport.
These selections invite viewers to hike class dusty landscapes of Dubois, Wyoming; float through old-growth forests checking account the Restigouche River in Another Brunswick, Canada; explore the piney lowlands of the exclusive Okeetee Club in Ridgeland, South Carolina; and more.
Pleissner’s compositions are a certain not only by his in agreement ability to capture details behoove habitat and the mood accustomed a particular place, but too by what they leave discriminate the imagination: illuminated by trim glowing sunrise, early rising encompass hunters lay decoys for off guard pintail drakes; fishermen patiently wait for for brown trout to brand to the surface; and back off friends take aim as woodcock and quail burst from rectitude underbrush.
